Roman Catholicism attempts to build its parallels of Mary to Jesus by first establishing that Mary was with out sin, just as was the Lord Jesus Christ. This claim is the basis for many of the other dogmas regarding Mary. It is therefore necessary to compare these teachings from the Catechism of the Catholic Church with the truth found in the Holy Bible.

Romans 3:23 All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,

Hebrews 7:26 For such an high priest [Jesus] became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.

I John 3:5 And ye know that he [Jesus] was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest [Jesus] which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

God is called “Savior,” as He saves His people from sin. All mankind from Adam onward have sinned and the judgment of this sin is death. It is for this very fact that we need a savior. Even the mother of the Lord had need of her Savior and would have been spiritually lost without Him. Mary was a sinner and by God’s grace embraced her Savior. She rejoices in that joy which she had in common with all believers, that she had a true Savior.

Mary’s position is seen also in the following scriptures. First, Mary acknowledged herself to be a saved sinner. “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior....’” (Luke 1:46-47). Then both Joseph and Mary offered a sin offering according to the law of God. [Joseph and Mary came to Jerusalem] “to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” (Luke 2:24). If Mary was without sin, there would have been no need to offer up a pair of birds as a sacrifice to the Lord.
